The total online sales amount of Beijing’s wholesale and retail enterprises above designed sales amount had increased nearly 21 times, from 12 billion yuan(1.7 billion U. S. dollars) in 2010 to 263.29 billion yuan in 2018.
Beijing’s vice mayor Wang Hong made the comment at the 2019 China E-commerce Convention held on May 29, 2019.
Wang said that the contribution rate of the city’s wholesale and retail enterprises above designed sales amount to the total retail sales of consumer goods had grown from 26.7 percent in 2011 to 79 percent in 2018.
Beijing had fostered more than 700 e-commerce platforms by the end of 2018, which makes the city own the largest number of e-commerce platforms among China’s provinces, municipalities and regions.
Totally 13 of these e-commerce platforms had an annual turnover exceeding 100 billion yuan; 101 enterprises’ annual online sales amount each was over 100 million yuan.
E-commerce has become a pillar industry driving the city’s economic growth.
Beijing embraced new opportunity to further develop cross-border e-commerce in 2018 as the capital was one of the newly established 22 cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas.
What’s more, the Beijing Daxing International Airport to officially open in September will not only add new power to the development of cross-border e-commerce but also help it make leapfrog development.
